I used to wonder if it was presumptuous to call oneself an artist, but then I realized that from the time I was little, being an artist is all I knew how to be. I grew up spending most of my weekends at my grandma's house. She had an iconic pink house with a purple door and loved supporting local artists at craft shows. We'd soak up inspiration, then she'd encourage me at the kitchen table to create. Sewing, embroidery, painting, cutting, gluing- nothing was off limits. She even let me take over her garden layout and we'd explore cookbooks for new recipes that we'd tweak. She recognized something in me and nurtured it, and what she'd created was an artist. I think we all are artists in some form or another. We just have to cultivate and encourage it.
